American Bass-Baritone Wayne Tigges is an internationally known opera singer who has over 80 roles in his repertoire. He has performed with many of the world’s greatest opera houses including The Metropolitan Opera, Glyndebourne, Paris Opera, San Francisco Opera, Opera Grand Teatro de Liceu, LA Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Santa Fe Opera, and Atlanta Opera among many others. Equally at home with Symphony Orchestra work, Mr. Tigges has sung with the LA Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the NY Philharmonic, London Symphony, and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra among others.
He has worked with the world’s greatest conductors including Seiji Ozawa, Sir Andrew Davis, Sir Mark Elder, Sir Colin Davis, Jannick Nezet Seguin, Alan Gilbert, Danial Barenboim, Sir Donald Runnicles, John Nelson, Nello Santi, Bruno Bartoletti, and Esa Pekka Salonen, among others. In addition, some of the world’s best directors including Francesca Zambello, Sir David Vicars, Robert Wilson, David Alden, Sir Peter Hall, as well as Robert Altman (the director of the sitcom MASH), among others.
Mr. Tigges has become known as a modern opera specialist, being involved in nine opera world premieres, creating notable roles for operas such as Tobias Picker’s Delores Claiborne (San Francisco Opera), William Bolcolm’s A Wedding (Lyric Opera of Chicago), Hwang Ruo’s An American Soldier (Opera Theater St. Louis), and Christopher Theofanidis’s A Heart Of a Soldier (San Francisco Opera), among others with recent modern opera performances at Lyric Opera Of Chicago (Missy Mazzoli’s The Listeners), ALT (Johanney Navarro’s Working for the Macbeths). Other modern operas of living composers include 6 productions of Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking, Peter Ash’s Golden Ticket, Tobias Picker’s Emmeline, Terrence Blanchard’s Champion, Pèter Eötvös’ Angels in America, and Mark Adamo’s Little Women among others.
